Cruella De Vil is the main antagonist of the 101 Dalmatians franchise. She is the archenemy of the Dalmatian family, who developed an obsession for their fur since she met their ancestors Pongo and Perdita. She also serves as the main antagonist of 101 Dalmatian Street, and is now the great-aunt of Hunter De Vil and lives in Switzerland.

Background[]

In 101 Dalmatian Street, Cruella’s voice is first heard in the episode “London, We Have a Problem.” Her voice is also heard throughout “Better the De Vil You Know.” After making a brief, face-obscured cameo at the end of the episode, she later fully appears in “The De Vil Wears Puppies.”

After Hunter’s failed attempts to capture the Dalmatians, Cruella steps in to personally handle the situation. She briefly visits 103 Dalmatian Street and 99 Dalmatian Street in order for her plans to carry out. Eventually, she enters 101 Dalmatian Street, causing the Dalmatian puppies to evacuate as Delilah and Doug fight her off. However, they fail, and are captured by the De Vils. After this, she is betrayed by Hunter after he learns that Cruella will kill the puppies and dump their remains in foreign waters. Cruella, now having obtained the 101 Dalmatians, prepares the machinery she intends to use to kill the puppies. However, she is outsmarted by the Dalmatians and is caught by the police. The episode reveals that Cruella stays young by using foul-smelling perfume and by wearing a wig.

References before debut[]

Before first physically appearing in “Better the De Vil You Know,” Cruella De Vil had been previously referenced on multiple occasions in 101 Dalmatian Street:

  • In the theme song for 101 Dalmatian Street, a brief shot shows Cruella’s sillouette.
  • Throughout “A Date with Destiny… Dallas and Déjà Vu,” it is implied that Hunter is speaking with Cruella on his phone.
  • At the end of “London, We Have a Problem,” Delilah and Doug recognize Hunter’s scent as the De Vil scent, with the two referencing Cruella De Vil by name. Later, when Hunter is trapped in the storage container originally intended for the Dalmatians, he hollers for his “Great Aunt Cruella” to get him out.
  • In “The Longest Night,” Hansel tells a story of a monster who has a similar goal to Cruella—to fashion the coats of puppies. Additionally, Cruella’s voice can be heard mixed in with Hansel’s when he says “puppies” at the end of his story.
  • In “Dante’s Inferno,” upon seeing Dylan and Dolly, Hunter compliments their fur, but says he “[knows] someone it will look even better on.”

  • She appeared on the “We're Back” bumper for the series on the American Disney XD television channel.
